Vaccine schedule FAQ

What vaccines does a puppy need and when?

Core puppy shots are DHPP about every 4 weeks from 6 to 8 weeks until 16 weeks, leptospirosis in two doses from 12 weeks, rabies at 12 to 16 weeks, and boosters at 1 year, per AAHA's 2022 canine guidelines.

What vaccines does a kitten need and when?

Core kitten shots are FVRCP every 3 to 4 weeks from 6 to 8 weeks until 16 weeks, rabies from 12 weeks, and FeLV in two doses, with boosters at 1 year, per AAFP's 2020 feline guidelines.

How much do the shots cost?

Using CareCredit's national averages, the shots alone are about $230 for a puppy and $220 for a kitten for the first series, plus about $110 for the 1 year boosters. Exam fees at each visit are extra and vary by clinic.

What if my pet is already past a visit?

Ask your vet. Pets with no vaccine history, or a gap in the series, often restart or catch up on a vet-set schedule.
